Sac State Volunteers
Pictured: Sac State students participated in a river clean up during "Alternative Spring Break."
131 volunteers joined us in March to help on the American River Parkway! They put in 351 hours removing 957 pounds of trash and 8,134 invasive plants, such as broom and red sesbania.

Groups from Oracle and Intel worked on projects at the Campfire Outdoor Educational Site, while groups from Jesuit High School and Sac State joined us for cleanups.

Cullen Realty Achievements Cullen Realty
Meet Chris Cullen with Cullen Realty, our volunteer steward for Mile 20-South! Chris has been volunteering with the American River Parkway Foundation for over 20 years, and Cullen Realty joined our volunteer mile steward ranks in 2005.

Chris enjoys lots of support on his mile from his wife, three young sons, and countless friends who also have a passion for our river parkway. When Chris is not working hard to help clients buy and sell homes, you’ll find him paddling on the river with his three boys and their border collie!

In regard to Chris’ volunteer capacity, he’s all about hosting river clean-up events. He is the site captain for our Spring and Fall river clean-ups at the El Manto Dr River Access, which covers the all of the Rossmoor Bar area. He also enjoys leading smaller groups from various organizations for river clean-up outings. One thing Chris is known for is “celebrating the parkway." After the work is done, let the picnic commence!

Chris began volunteering for the parkway for two reasons. Chris loves working with people for a common goal. He also feels a spiritual connection with nature in general; especially our river parkway. This feeling will never go away and is why Chris continues to volunteer to keep our river clean.

Naturally we would all encourage others to volunteer on the parkway. The satisfaction that we gain and the pride that we feel working together to keep our parkway beautiful is priceless. Every event is a good time for all the right reasons. When asked, Chris said last year’s “On-River Clean-Up” stood out among the other events. It consisted of dozens of boaters coming together to get the hard to reach trash. The volunteers that have the capacity to be on the water cleaning-up are a select group of folks and a lot of fun work with.

CCB Fellowship Riverside Walk
CCB Fellowship Riverside Walk
On Sunday, March 25th, the American River Parkway Foundation partnered with the California Council of the Blind (CCB) to host the first-ever Fellowship Riverside Walk for blind and low-vision walkers as part of the CCB 2018 Convention & Conference. Thank you to the 16 walkers and 15 volunteers who came out to enjoy a stroll through the beautiful Upper Sunrise Recreation Area!

Protect Every Drop

Clean Water starts with Clean Highways.

Protect Every Drop
Protecting our waterways from pollution is a core part of the Parkway Foundation's activities. That's why we've partnered up with Caltrans' Protect Every Drop campaign, which educates Californians about the sources and pathways of stormwater pollution.
