XL Construction
Pictured: XL Construction's Sacramento staff removed 800 lbs of trash from Discovery Park!
We had 336 volunteers join us for 798 hours during July! They removed more than 2,890 pounds of trash and 28,580 invasive plants (including red sesbania, Chinese tallow, stinkwort, and brooms) from the American River Parkway.

Groups from Clarke, Crowe, Intel, and XL Construction came out to help clear trails as well as remove invasive plants and trash from the Parkway.

Office Volunteers Needed

ARPF Champion

We're pleased to introduce our new Volunteer Coordinator, Justin Santana! Read on to learn more about Justin, and join us at a future volunteer event to meet him.

I was born in Redlands, CA and moved to Lodi, CA when I was 5. Upon graduating from Lodi H.S. I moved to Sacramento to attend California State University, Sacramento. Sacramento has been my home for the past 17 years.

In my spare time I enjoy many outdoor activities such as hiking, riding my bike, gardening and taking long walks with my best pup Diesel, our Miniature Schnauzer.

In the past I was an avid runner, completing about 5 half-marathons a year and two full marathons during my running career. The Parkway was my training grounds of choice and I would be on the trail at least 4 to 5 days a week.

My fondest memory of the Parkway is when I was training for my first full marathon in the summer of 2014. I enjoyed getting up early in the morning and going for long distance runs as the sun rose.

Recently I was forced to stop running due to a back injury but it has not keep me off the Parkway. Now I am into riding a road bike as my incentive to get back out on the Parkway and enjoy all its natural beauty.

ARPF Infrastructure Projects
In 2016, the ARPF launched a new initiative to assist Sacramento County Regional Parks in the maintenance of park infrastructure along the American River Parkway. Projects have included repairing and replacing picnic tables, repainting bathrooms, and replacing post-and-cable. Since 2016, more than 94 picnic tables have been rehabilitated.

Volunteers

Businesses on the Parkway
The Sacramento business community plays an important role in the success of our programs on the American River Parkway. In addition to financial support, these businesses and their employees have donated valuable hours volunteering on the Parkway, helping with trail maintenance, river cleanups, invasive plant removal, infrastructure projects, and more.
A huge thank you goes out to these corporate groups that have joined us to volunteer on the American River Parkway since January of 2018:

Accenture | Blue Shield of California | Clarke | Core Yoga | Crowe | Intel | Jackson Family Wines |Keller Williams Realty | Kimley-Horn and Associates | Nestle | Oracle | PG&E | Sacramento State | SAFE Credit Union | SMUD | State Compensation Insurance Fund | Trainor Fairbrook | Verizon | XL Construction

River Float Cleanup
River Float Cleanup
On Saturday, July 14th, 52 volunteers joined us to float down the American River for a good cause! This hardworking crew removed 700 pounds of trash from the Parkway between Sunrise Recreation Area and River Bend Park.

Volunteers relaxed afterward with a well-deserved BBQ at River Bend Park, hosted by E2 Church. Thank you to all who came out, and a special thank you to our partners at Team Giving, Cullen Realty, E2 and American River Raft Rentals for making this event possible!

Mark your calendar - Howlin' on the Parkway is returning on Saturday, October 20th at William B. Pond Park! Get your family and your pooch ready for a morning full of fun including a walk on Parkway trails, a costume competition, pet adoptions, vendors, food trucks, raffle prizes, and more.

Proceeds from Howlin' on the Parkway will help provide dog poop bags on the American River Parkway through the Parkway Foundation's Pups in the Park program. Pet waste is an environmental pollutant containing bacteria that can contaminate the river and soil as well as cause diseases if not disposed of properly. So help protect our waterways by walking your dog on Saturday, October 20th!

If you love running on the American River Parkway, take one day to support it! Join our partner, the Sacramento Running Association, on Sunday, November 4th for Run the Parkway - the official training run for the California International Marathon. With a 20-miler, half marathon, and untimed fun run/walk, this race has something for everyone! Proceeds will benefit the Parkway Foundation's trail maintenance program, keeping the Parkway's equestrian/hiking trails accessible for all.

Volunteer with your group at an aid station! If your group is interested in hosting an aid station (minimum of 20 volunteers), please email us at volunteer@arpf.org. Registration for all other volunteer opportunities will open later this month.
