Did you know that being outdoors is beneficial to your health?
Well, here in Sacramento we are lucky to have this fabulous resource – the American River Parkway.
While out on the parkway you can enjoy nature, see the river and animals while running, cycle on 23 miles of Class 1 paved trail, walk, bird watch, or just sit down to reflect. Where else can you escape the city, access 4800 acres of open space, and roam 23 miles of trails?
Below are a few resources for you to learn about the benefits of nature and recreation to your health.
Harvard Health: A Prescription for Better Health: Go Alfresco
Over the next 6-9 months, the Foundation will be working with a consortium of organizations to develop new recreation programs to get more people out on the Parkway!
We have developed these videos to bring you to the Parkway without leaving your home. While this is no substitution for getting outside, research shows that simply viewing images of nature can relax and revitalize the body and mind, lower heartrate and blood pressure, and increase concentration. So, take a short break, and enjoy the Parkway virtually when you are unable to enjoy it physically. Your body, mind, and maybe even your boss will thank you later. We encourage you to share with your friends and family.
