Mission:

The mission of the American River Parkway Foundation Internship program is to work with ARPF staff lead and inspire the community to conserve and nurture the American River Parkway as a unique, accessible resource for everyone to enjoy.

• Background/interest in recreation, community programming, education, or a related field
• Comfortable working outdoors and engaging with the public
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Able to work independently and as part of a team
• Creative thinker with an interest in community engagement

Description:

The Recreation Intern will assist ARPF staff in supporting the Parkway CONNECT program, which brings outdoor-focused recreation and education activities to the community. This role involves hands-on support with planning and delivering public programs along the American River Parkway, between Hazel Avenue and the confluence of the Sacramento and American rivers. Work will take place both indoors and outdoors.

The intern will gain valuable skills and experience in the following areas:
• Program development and delivery
• Community engagement strategies
• Outdoor and environmental education
• Volunteer coordination

Tasks:

Program Support
• Assist with the planning and setup of youth and family-friendly activities
• Support the implementation of Parkway CONNECT programming
• Help lead interactive experiences such as crafts, games, or guided activities Outreach & Engagement
• Represent ARPF at community events in a welcoming and professional manner
• Assist with creating flyers, social media content, and promotional blurbs
• Track program participation and support post-program evaluations

Volunteer Coordination
• Assist with managing small volunteer groups during programming
• Help organize materials and guide volunteers in activity stations

Other
• Help with program cleanup and equipment organization
• Other miscellaneous tasks as assigned

Additional Information:
Interns commit to a minimum of 90 hours over a mutually agreed-upon time period. Weekend and evening work will be required, depending on the event schedule. The internship is an unpaid volunteer position, although academic credit can be arranged depending on school requirements. Interns must notify and arrange for academic credit before starting the internship.
