Will my child need any special gear or equipment?

All activity-specific gear (like fishing rods, gold pans, paint supplies, bows and arrows) is provided. Participants only need to bring personal items like water, snacks, and sunscreen.

Are kids allowed to bring cell phones and other electronic devices to Parkway Adventure Days?

Yes, your child may bring cell phones or other electronic devices, but we strongly encourage kids to stay present and enjoy their time outdoors. Please note that staff will not monitor personal devices, and we are not responsible for any lost, damaged, or stolen items. Devices should stay in backpacks unless being used during designated times (such as check-in or pick-up).

Learn to cast, bait, and (hopefully) catch a fish while discovering more about the local aquatic ecosystem. This day is led in partnership with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, who bring expert guidance and kid-friendly instruction to the shoreline. </li>

Step back in time with a hands-on gold panning experience, guided by educators from the Sacramento History Museum. We will learn about local mining history and try their hand at finding gold the old-fashioned way. </li>

Let creativity flourish in the great outdoors. We will be led through a nature-inspired painting session by instructors from Heart Craft Studio, using the Parkway as their muse. </li>

Take aim and learn the basics of target archery with Bow Craft Archery. This safe and supportive session gives youth a chance to develop focus, patience, and confidence—all while having a blast. </li>

Can I sign up for only one day?

Yes. Each Adventure Day is a standalone experience. You can register for just one or as many as you’d like.

Can I sign up multiple children at once?

Yes. The registration form allows you to enroll multiple children in one session.

Do I have to register ahead of time?

Yes. Space is limited for each day, so advance registration is required. We recommend registering early to secure your preferred dates.

Who are the instructors?

Each day is led by staff from the American River Parkway Foundation, along with local experts and activity partners. All staff and volunteers are background-checked.

What is the staff-to-child ratio?

We aim for a low staff-to-child ratio to ensure a safe, supportive environment—typically 1 staff member for every 10 kids. Depending on the activity, we will also have volunteers and activity guides available.

How do I drop off and pick up my child?

Drop-off and pick-up instructions will be emailed the week before each session. Look for a check-in station near the entrance of the designated park area.

What if my child needs to leave early or arrive late?

Please let us know in advance if your child will need to arrive late or leave early. Staff will coordinate with you to ensure a smooth transition.

Can parents/guardians stay and watch?

These are drop-off events, but if your child requires accommodations or you're interested in volunteering, please contact us. Some locations may allow limited parent observation depending on space and activity.

Is camp ever closed due to weather conditions?

Adventure Days are held rain or shine. However, in the event of extreme weather (e.g., excessive heat or lightning), we will notify families of cancellations or changes as early as possible.

Are restrooms available at each location?

Yes. Each park site has restroom facilities available for participants.
